1. Is it organic?
You can get away with buying certain non-organic foods, but when it comes to the products you’re going to rub into your skin, it’s important to always buy 100% organic.
Your skin is the largest organ in your body, and most importantly, it is porous - which means it will absorb the things you put on it. This is great when you use things like healthy jojoba, coconut oil, and other plant-based ingredients. It is bad news if your skin products contain all kinds of nasty additives and preservatives.
Putting out a little more money upfront will ensure you’re getting a high-quality, natural product - you don’t want to clog those beautiful pores with chemicals, additives, and cheap fillers!
2. Is it cold pressed?
Also referred to as “unrefined”, cold-pressed jojoba oil is the purest extract you can get. In this process, a machine called an expeller press removes the oil from the seed.
This oil from the first press is the cold-pressed, unrefined jojoba oil that’s nourishing indulgence for your skin. Refined jojoba oil, which is derived from the leftover “meal” of the nuts, is of lesser quality. This extract needs help from chemicals and additives to make it look and smell good.
Again, you want to buy the best quality jojoba oil you can afford. Your skin is going to absorb this, so make sure it’s something you’re comfortable putting into your body.
3. Is it 100% pure?
This may seem like a silly consideration, but you want to make sure the only ingredient is 100% organic, cold-pressed jojoba.
Some companies, in an effort to cut costs, will blend refined jojoba in with the cold-pressed jojoba, resulting in a lesser quality product. Be sure to read the ingredient list, and don’t be afraid to ask the company questions about their product.
